BUTOGOTA

Uganda Log: Wednesday 21 October 2009

We had a flat tire in Byumba. Flat tires are not unusual so it was imparative that we have a operable spare with us. So the closest place to get a tire fixed was Butogota.

Butogota is typical of towns in this part of Uganda.

While we were waiting, Levi and I took the opportunity to pick up a little something to eat: this mellon which bears my name, "A Jack Fruit" -- well the Jack part anyway.

The children liked watching all the Mzungu hanging around their street.

This is the only tire repair man around. He didn't even have his own shop; he just worked on the side of the road with a few rudimentary tools.

Nate's idea of tea.

We had to stop in Butagota to get a tire repaired on the way back to Buhoma. While waiting for the repair, we went to a tea shop where we had cold drinks. Levi, our guide from the BDP, and Albert, the escort from UWA, ate. (Albert had something like a goat stomach wrapped in goat intestine—it was gross but he gobbled it up).

Our tire man still at it.

Yet another video would not upload into this Blogger. Amazingly our tire was eventually fixed and held up for the remainder of our trip. CLICK HERE to watch YouTube and see our tire fixer "pump to the music." (Click on Back Button on your Browser to return to this blog).

After dinner Nate and Erin were locked out of their room after it had been cleaned. It was pitch dark, but Gino, the cook from the Guesthouse, came out of nowhere and found the key for them (the night watchman had it). Also he was able to procure a tank of propane for me to hook up to the stove in my room. So for the first time I was able to have a hot sponge bath. Glory Be.
