KAMP KAMPALA

Uganda Log: Saturday 17 October 2009

Nate drove us from the Entebbe Airport to his rented apartment in Kampala, Uganda's capital city. There we met Luis Barriero, a Portuguese University of Chicago post-doc geneticist who is working with Nate.

They had a nice setup there. The apartment was to be used as a base of operations close to Makerere University where DNA samples could be worked up, stored, and prepared for shipment back to the U.S. for a complete analysis later. Unfortunately the DNA kits were misdirected and never arrived on time. Of all the complicated logistic factors that needed to be set in place, it was ironic that the weak link had come from State's side.
